DigitalMinds: Assessing workers’ personality based on automated analysis of digital footprints

The Finnish start-up DigitalMinds has created software aimed at efficiently matching job applicants profiles with optimal ones each employment descriptions (Algorithm Watch 2019). The firm hopes to remove human participation from the job application process, ideally speeding up and making the process more reliable. The system draws from public online interfaces like Twitter, Facebook, Gmail and Microsoft Office to create a digital profile that includes a complete personality assessment (ibid).

DigitalMinds claims that it has received no objections to its analytic practices from prospective candidates thus far (ibid). However, perhaps the consent given by a job applicant should be questioned given the distinct power asymmetry between a potential employer and an applicant.
