Gemma Galdon

President of the board

Dr. Gemma Galdon Clavell is a policy analyst working on surveillance, social, legal and ethical impacts of technology, smart cities, privacy, security policy, resilience and policing. She is a founding partner at Eticas Research & Consulting and a researcher at the Universitat de Barcelona’s Sociology Department. She completed her PhD on surveillance, security and urban policy in early 2012 at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she also received an MSc in Policy Management, and was later appointed Director of the Security Policy Programme at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). Previously, she worked at the Transnational Institute, the United Nations’ Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Catalan Institute for Public Security. She teaches topics related to her research at several foreign universities, mainly in Latin America, and is a member of the IDRC-funded Latin American Surveillance Studies Network. Additionally, she is a member of the international advisory board of Privacy International and a regular analyst on TV, radio and print media. Her recent academic publications tackle issues related to the proliferation of surveillance in urban settings, urban security policy and community safety, security and mega events, the relationship between privacy and technology and smart cities.


Griselda Casadellà

managing director

Griselda holds a degree in Sociology (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). She studied a Postgraduate course on Audience Studies in Internet, Television and Cinema (Universitat Ramon Llull) and she also coursed a Degree on Journalism (Universitat Pompeu Fabra). She has worked for several media outlets (newspapers, TV and radio stations, Internet) and she has been running different technology projects, from digital grassroots media to community telecommunications networks. Lately she developed a project granted for the Open Technology Institute (Washington DC) to deploy Internet and mobile community networks in the village of Fumaça (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Her interests are mainly at the intersection between technology and society, focusing in raising public awareness about social implications of technology

Victoria Peuvrelle


After having studied social and political sciences in London, Victoria decided to focus her future in furthering ethical uses of data. She is currently working at Eticas on various projects surrounding the protection of data and privacy, ranging from the use of algorithms by government, to data commons or bad data.

Ferran Caymel


We collaborate regularly with Ferran, from the studio Infografia_cat. He works in infographic design, data visualisation and video-infographics. 

The foundation team is assisted at all times by Eticas R&C staff
