We have been proposed to talk about Big Data and proposals on how we can democratize it.
L’Altre is an association of students from the ETSEIB (Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering). It aims to propose alternatives for engineering once students finish the degree, or during it. It was born as a reaction to the Business Forum, “where some organizations with dubious values and disrespect for human rights go. What we aim is, organizing talks and workshops, to bring students closer to the social and solidarity economy, to free software, to a democratization of our lives”, as said in their website.
This year this students initiative decided to dedicate a talk to the world of Big Data from a constructive point of view, for instance, thinking about how to use massive data collection and data treatment to democratize society, instead of to increase control of the state and corporations about our lives.
